New arts infrastructure fund to assist organisations with upgrades

The Palaszczuk Government today (29 January) announced a new Arts Infrastructure Fund to help small-to-medium-sized organisations throughout the state improve their facilities.

Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch said the $250,000 fund will improve arts facilities and encourage greater access to arts and cultural experiences within local communities.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to supporting a vibrant arts and cultural sector in Queensland and recognises the critical role of infrastructure in making this happen,” Ms Enoch said.

“The breadth of infrastructure projects that could be delivered as a result of this new funding is considerable.

“It could include essential premises upgrades such as roof replacement or repairs, the installation of stairs, ramps or lifts to increase accessibility, and other structural improvements.

“New art studio spaces or workshops could be constructed through the use of this funding, which will further enhance these creative environments and allow Queensland arts organisations to connect with their communities even more,” she said.

“The fund can also support sustainability initiatives such as solar panel installation, energy-efficient lighting, and new or improved air-conditioning and ventilation systems.”

Spokesperson for the Queensland Chamber of Arts and Culture Katherine Hoepper said the new fund will ensure both artists and audiences will benefit from access to high-quality venues.

“This investment also recognises that artists living and working in Queensland help to strengthen our culture and communities,” she said.

The Arts Infrastructure Fund will offer funding up to $50,000 per applicant for a maximum of 50 per cent of the total eligible project cost.

Applications for the fund open today 29 January and close 16 March 2018.
