Culture Counts in Queensland

Ten Queensland arts organisations will gain a deeper understanding of the public value generated from their arts and cultural events as part of the Culture Counts 2016 Queensland pilot.

The pilot will also provide successful participants with the opportunity to strengthen their peer networks and develop evaluation skills including survey design, administration and analysis.

Culture Counts is an Australian measurement platform that captures artist, peer and public feedback on the quality and reach of arts and cultural events.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) opened on 13 January with eight participant positions available to be supported by Arts Queensland. However, due to the level of interest and the quality of EOIs received, Arts Queensland partnered with Culture Counts to expand participation to the following 10 participants:

  • Blackall Tambo Regional Council (including two events with Red Ridge)
  • Blue Roo Theatre Company Inc.
  • Brisbane Writers Festival
  • Cairns Indigenous Art Fair
  • Creative Regions
  • Empire Theatre
  • Flying Arts
  • Human Ventures
  • La Boite Theatre
  • Rockhampton Art Gallery

This pilot is part of Arts Queensland’s ongoing commitment, through our Arts Acumen initiative, to support the sustainability of individuals and organisations across the state’s arts and cultural sector by providing resources, information and opportunities to foster knowledge growth, connections and access to industry intelligence.

Previous participants

“It has been fantastic to have another way of confirming that we achieved our original creative intention with the event, and to have tangible results which we can use in reporting, to demonstrate value to our stakeholders, and to inform programming next year.”  Queensland Symphony Orchestra, 2015 participant

“We now have great data to mine and apply.  I’m pleased Access Arts has been part of the Culture Counts pilot as it has given us hard evidence, rigorous results and impartial validation as we embark on this process of deciding our next directions.” – Access Arts, 2015 participant

“In the past the IMA has used other methods to conduct surveys and found the Culture Counts platform to be user-friendly, and more beneficial with in-depth analysis, regular communication and unique reporting. Participating in this Culture Counts trial has been a positive experience and we will use this platform again to collect survey responses.” – Institute of Modern Art, 2015 participant
