Lendlease Construction Update: January/February 2021

It’s an exciting year for the New Performing Arts Venue (NPAV) project as construction activities ramp up and the new theatre takes shape.

Upcoming access changes to Russell Street, South Brisbane

To support the construction of the new theatre and ensure safety around the project site, from 1 February 2021 until the project is completed in late 2022, Lendlease will take possession of Russell Street, South Brisbane between 6am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

This means that during these hours only construction, commercial and emergency vehicles will have access to Russell Street under traffic control, however pedestrian access will be maintained at all times via the footpath on the southern side of the street.

What to expect?

• Only construction, commercial and emergency vehicles will have access to Russell Street between 6am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours, usual traffic access will be in place.
• Traffic control will be in place at the corner of Russell and Grey Streets to manage access into Russell Street during work hours.
• Reduced speed for construction, commercial and emergency vehicles using Russell Street.
• Signage to direct traffic and advise speed limits.
• The footpath on the southern side of Russell Street will remain open to pedestrians.

Tower crane deliveries to site

Two large tower cranes will support construction of the new theatre - including lifting steel, concrete, large tools, and equipment during the next phase of construction. The tower cranes are scheduled for arrive on site late January and mid-February as outlined below:

• Saturday 30 January 2021 - One tower crane will be delivered to the southern side of site via Russell Street, between 5.30am and 5pm. During this time Russell Street will be closed to general traffic with construction, commercial and emergency vehicles access only.
  
  The footpath on the southern side of Russell Street will be closed for approx. one hour at 12pm for safety reasons while the tower crane jib is lifted into place.
  
  Traffic control, including reduced speed limits, will be in place to support the safe delivery of the cranes. Minor delays are expected during this time.

• Saturday 13 February 2021 - A second crane will be delivered to the western side of site via Grey Street between 5.30am and 5pm. Traffic control will be in place with decreased speed limits and signage in place, however no changes to access on Grey Street are expected during the delivery.
