The Queensland Government formally announced Lendlease has been appointed as the successful Managing Contractor to build the new theatre at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
Lendlease has worked extensively with public sector clients on a diverse range of community infrastructure both in Queensland and nationally. Lendlease’s experience throughout the Queensland Cultural Centre include the State Library of Queensland expansion, construction of the Gallery of Modern Art and the refurbishment and new entrances to the Queensland Art Gallery.
Nationally, Lendlease developed the new Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Theatre Company and provided a new building for the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
Most appropriate to Lendlease’s selection as the Managing Contractor for the new theatre is the delivery of the major refurbishment to QPAC’s Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall and associated infrastructure. Lendlease will deliver the design and construction for the theatre and will now work closely with QPAC and Blight Rayner + Snøhetta to refine and finalise design development. Preparatory works on the site will commence early next year with the main construction commencing in mid 2020.
