Queensland has received a boost to its vibrant arts and cultural offering with more than $193,000 allocated to support eight new projects across the state.
Premier and Minister for the Arts, Annastacia Palaszczuk, today announced the latest Projects and Programs funding would support a rich array of creative Queensland initiatives encompassing music, culture, writing and the visual arts.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to growing Queensland’s art sector with this funding supporting Queensland artists and arts organisations to create new work and reach new markets,” said Ms Palaszczuk.
“This is the first instalment of Projects and Programs under a new rolling fund model, which means Queensland’s art sector can apply for funding at any time and government can be responsive to investment opportunities as they emerge.
“Many of these initiatives build on Queensland’s arts and cultural offering in regional communities including the Best of Brass project in Emerald, and the La Luna Youth Arts Emergence exhibition in Townsville, Cairns and Mackay.
“The Projects and Programs fund will also contribute to two new Queensland festivals, the Quandamooka Festival (July-September) and the Ignite Your Mind Burdekin Readers and Writers Festival (17-18 July), making their debut in 2015.
“Funding will also support new exhibitions for the Gold Coast’s The Walls Art Space, a South East Queensland Indigenous fibre art project, a showcase of Far North Queensland art and culture, and the creation and promotion of Queensland literary work.”
